PlayStation 4 Pro Won’t Play 4K Blu-Rays

The PlayStation 4 Pro will not play 4K Blu-Rays. This was confirmed to IGN by a PlayStation representative at the PlayStation Meeting in New York City. Announced earlier today, the PS4 Pro has a boosted CPU clock rate, a 1 terabyte hard drive, and more than double the power of the PS4 GPU. It will support HDR10, as well 4K streaming from a new Netflix App, as well as a YouTube app that’s currently in development. ABC has released a collection of new Season 4 premiere photos for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, including another look at Ghost Rider’s alter ego. The slideshow — seen below — features Ming-na Wen (Melinda May), Henry Simmons (Alphonso Mackenzie) and series newcomer Gabriel Luna (Robbie Reyes, a.k.a. Ghost Rider). PS4 Pro 'Not the Start of a New Console Generation'

Sony’s enhanced version of PlayStation 4 isn’t ushering in a new console generation, according to PS4 Pro lead system architect Mark Cerny. “PS4 Pro is not the start of a new console generation, nor is it a console that’s going to blur the lines between generations,” Cerny said during Sony’s PlayStation Meeting post-show livestream. Cerny also spoke to the excitement amongst the industry for PlayStation 4 Pro, noting that “developers and publishers have been very quick to adopt the new platform.” PlayStation 4 Pro releases on November 10 for $399 and will “stand alongside and complement the original PS4” with 4K and HDR capabilities. Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Andrew House announced that every PlayStation 4 console ever made will become HDR compatible via a firmware update coming next week. House made the announcement at the PlayStation press briefing today alongside the reveal of a new, slimmer PS4 model and the PlayStation 4 Pro, previously codenamed the Neo. PS4 Pro Price and Release Date Announced

At Sony’s PlayStation Meeting today, the company unveiled its 4K and HDR-supporting console dubbed the PS4 Pro, will cost $399 USD and will launch November 10, 2016. Lead systems architect Mark Cerny shared some of the updated specifications for the PS4 Pro, including more than double the power of the GPU and a boosted clock rate of the CPU.
