Pokemon Go Is Doubling Sales At Some Businesses

Pokemon Go’s explosive popularity is having an unexpected and overwhelmingly positive effect on real-world businesses. For anyone returning from outer space or a weeks-long expedition into the deep wild, Pokemon Go is an augmented-reality (AR) game that requires players to physically explore the real world in order to find and catch Pokemon. Besides trying to catch ‘em all, Pokemon Go players will intentionally seek out PokeStops to stock up on in-game items or gyms to prove their Pokemon prowess. These in-game markers are always located at real-life points of interests, such as murals, churches, or other places of man-made, cultural significance. Continue reading…

Frequency Pilot Review

Frequency Pilot Review

Fans at San-Diego Comic-Con got to watch the pilot episode for The CW’s new series Frequency, starring The Flash’s Peyton List. This is our spoiler-free review of the episode, which premieres on Wednesday, October 5th, following Arrow. Based on the Dennis Quaid/Jim Caviezel cross-time thriller from 2000, Frequency marks The CW’s latest entry into the new resurgence of time travel TV, which was ushered in by Syfy’s 12 Monkeys a year ago and then followed up this year with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Now — with Time After Time on ABC and Timeless on NBC also coming up — time machines seem to be all the rage. And like 12 Monkeys, Frequency has been adapted from a movie and extended and expanded into a something that can exist as an ongoing series. The main difference with Frequency though when compared to the other shows, as far as we know at the outset, is that the only thing traveling through time is information. Timelines get altered, fates get averted, but no one’s physically getting beamed through the universe and landing in a different era. There’s just a mysterious pipeline that allows for some interesting drama. Continue reading…

Someone Has 'Completed' the US Version of Pokemon Go

Reddit user ftb_hodor has caught every currently available Pokemon in the United States in Pokemon Go, but their Pokedex isn’t quite complete. According to ftb_hodor’s post on Reddit, they have 142 Pokemon caught, and it took them walking 153km to do so. However the actual figure may be greater: “Game recorded 153km, but it’s not all that accurate, and according to the Health app i’ve walked 129.04 miles in that time (almost all of that would be with the game open), or about 200km.” Currently it is thought there are five unreleased Pokemon, namely the three legendary birds, Mewtwo, and Ditto. Plus, there are four Pokemon which are thought to be region specific. Continue reading…
