A race where Zoom will have the speed advantage and Barry will have the oh-so-important heart advantage. Check out the images below… The official description for “The Race of His Life” reads: “Season 2 ends with Zoom revealing his true plan and Barry vowing to do whatever it takes to stop him.” Continue reading…

Once Upon a Time: Season 5 Review

Once Upon a Time: Season 5 Review

Warning: Full spoilers for Once Upon a Time: Season 5 follow.   A tricky part about assembling the Once Upon a Time puzzle has to be the sheer number of possibilities. As a fan of fairy tales, folklore, and Disney, I don’t know what it would be like to try to choose what to include in the mythology of a series that has opened the door to all of those elements. Once often succeeds at weaving the strings together, then twisting and connecting characters and stories in creative, unexpected ways. They accomplished the feat in Season 5 by adding Camelot, the Underworld, and even Jekyll and Hyde, but they hit some roadblocks too. The half-season long themes continued to be an issue, as they have been since Season 3. On the upshot, despite the settings of Camelot and Underworld, the main cast stayed in focus. Emma and her struggle as Dark Swan and her love for Hook and her family took the spotlight regardless of anything else going on. Regina continued to adapt to being on the light side and tried to find her happiness. Rumplestiltskin, well he was Rumplestiltskin, but he embraced who he was. Those three characters were given plenty of attention and not lost in the sea of new faces such as Merlin, Merida, or Hades. Continue reading…

What We Saw on the Set of Star Trek Beyond

What We Saw on the Set of Star Trek Beyond

Things are not looking good for the crew of the USS Enterprise. Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto), Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban), Scotty (Simon Pegg) and Chekov (Anton Yelchin) are standing on the dark, battered bridge of a ship that is not the Enterprise… and that seems to be barely functioning at all. Spock is wounded, and while Kirk is giving him a pep talk, it’s clear that some bad s#!t has gone down for Starfleet’s finest. “We have no ship, no crew!” yells Kirk. Space… the final frontier, indeed. It’s August of 2015 and I’m on the Vancouver set of Star Trek Beyond, the third film in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted big-screen series. After directing Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Abrams warped away — or rather, made the jump to lightspeed — in order to helm the rebirth of that other sci-fi juggernaut, Star Wars, with The Force Awakens. And while he has remained on Beyond as a producer, the center seat of the Trek world is currently being filled by Justin Lin, the man behind four Fast and Furious films (and the guy largely responsible for that series’ unlikely resurgence once he came onboard with the third movie). Cliff Bleszinski Reveals His Favorite Gears of War Game

Cliff Bleszinski Reveals His Favorite Gears of War Game

Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski stopped by the IGN office to discuss his history at Epic Games and shared with us why his favorite entry in Microsoft’s beloved cover-based shooter series is Gears of War 3. In the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, the Boss Key Productions co-founder said that while many still believe Gears 1 is the series’ best installment, the third entry tops his list because “that’s where we really honed things and had dedicated servers and everything. We had multiple game types, different characters, women in the battle…. It was cool.” For Bleszinski, Gears of War 3 was “kind of the culmination of everything,” with the game’s conclusion serving as a metaphor for his experience relaxing on the Carolina coast, and the character Anya Stroud (and her relationship with Marcus Fenix) drawing inspiration from his wife Lauren.
